Water Supply:
The Mission focuses on development of basic urban infrastructure in water supply sector in the Mission cities with the expected outcome of Universal coverage for access to potable water for every household in Mission cities;
To mitigate the problem in drinking water sector, the water supply component inter-alia, provides for augmentation of existing water supply, rehabilitation of old water supply systems including treatment plants and rejuvenation of water bodies, specifically for drinking water supply and recharging of ground water. Recycling/ reuse of waste water, reduction of non-revenue water are some of the important features.
This includes end to end solution to facilitate universal coverage of household water supply such as source improvement work, water treatment plants, storage facilities like underground and & overhead tanks (OHT), distribution network, improvement in pumping machinery and universal metering.
Universal coverage of water supply is the priority sectors under the Mission. At the inception of AMRUT, the water supply coverage was 64%. By the end of the Mission, it aims to cover 100% households. The target is to provide 139 lakh water tap connections to achieve universal coverage. So far 22.89 lakh tap connections have been provided.
Against the total plan size of Rs.77,640 crore of all the SAAPs, Rs.39,011 crore (50%) has been allocated to water supply.
Sewerage and Septage Management:
The Mission focuses on development of basic urban infrastructure in sewerage and septage management in the Mission cities with the expected outcome of Substantial improvement in coverage and treatment capacities of sewerage.
Substantial coverage of sewerage and septage management is the priority sectors under the Mission. At the inception of AMRUT, the sewerage coverage was 31%. By the end of the Mission, it aims to cover 62% households.
Sewerage and septage sector projects includes decentralized or networked underground sewerage systems, sewage treatment plants, rehabilitation of old sewerage system, treatment plants, recycling and reuse of water for beneficial purposes.Projects related to faecal Sludge Management, mechanical and biological cleaning of sewers are also eligible for funding.
Against the total plan size of Rs.77,640 crore of all the SAAPs, Rs.32,456 crore (42%) has been allocated to sewerage and septage management.
Storm Water Drainage:
The Mission focuses on development of basic urban infrastructure in storm water drains to reduce flooding. After universal coverage of water and sewerage, storm water drainage is given the next priority. Construction and maintenance of storm water drains is expected to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, flooding and water logging problem in cities, thereby making cities resilient.
Against the total plan size of Rs.77,640 crore of all the SAAPs, Rs.2,969 crore (4%) has been allocated to storm water drainage projects.
The drainage components includes construction of new network of primary and secondary drainage, proper drainage network to all identified water stagnant point/ flooding points up to the end discharge point and rejuvenation of existing primary nallahs & primary drains including covering and installation of filter.
Non-motorized Urban Transport:
The Mission also focus on a healthy and green environment for citizens and promoting use of non-motorized urban transport with the expected outcome of:
Increased amenity values of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces with child & elderly friendly featured in all Mission cities.
Reduce pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport.
Against the total plan size of Rs.77,640 crore of all the SAAPs, Rs.1,436 crore (2%) for non-motorized urban transport
The components of Non-motorized Transport are sidewalks, foot over bridges, multilevel parking.
Green Spaces & Parks
Development of green spaces and parks with special provision for children, senior citizen and divyang -friendly features.
Against the total plan size of Rs.1,768 crore (2%) has been allocated for green spaces and parks.
